Oldham Criminal Justice Mental Health Service
About this service
The Criminal Justice Mental Health Team covers the five boroughs within the Pennine Care footprint. We offer advice, assessments, risk assessments, to provide some short term interventions for clients with mental health problems who are on the periphery of offending behaviour or have committed an offence and to support services involved with this client group to best achieve outcomes.
The purpose of the team is to assess and make recommendations for clients who are involved in the criminal justice system in order to ensure fair treatment, access to appropriate services and diversion away from the criminal justice services for those offenders who are in need of treatment rather than punishment. Public protection is a key element of this process.
We work collaboratively with mental health services, social care, the police, the courts, prisons, probation services and others to try to obtain the best and fairest pathway for the offender with mental health problems and to ensure that public protection remains at the forefront. The team operates an open referral system.
